Barbados Travel Guide: Everything You Need to Know Before You Go
Every destination has its own rhythm. Barbados moves at a pace that rewards curiosity — the best experiences here aren't in the brochures, they're around the next corner.
Why Barbados
Barbados delivers what most destinations promise but few provide — genuine beauty, real culture, and enough variety to fill a week without repeating yourself. It's not a theme park version of paradise. It's the real thing.
Getting There
Fly into Grantley Adams International Airport (BGI). Direct flights from most major US cities. Currency: Barbadian Dollar (BBD), USD accepted. Language: English, Bajan Creole.
Best Time to Visit
December through May. Temperature range: 75°F (24°C) to 86°F (30°C). Shoulder season (May–June, November) offers the best value with nearly identical weather.
What Not to Miss
Crane Beach — pink-tinted sand and dramatic cliffs. One of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Access via the Crane Resort ($5 for non-guests).
Harrison's Cave — underground tram ride through crystallized limestone caverns. Stalactites, stalagmites, underground streams. $35 entry. Air-conditioned underground.
Local Food and Dining
Oistins Fish Fry (Friday night) — the legendary Friday night party. Grilled fish, loud music, cold Banks beer, and the whole island shows up. $10–15 per plate.
Planning Your Trip
Book accommodation and flights 3–4 months ahead for high season. One week is the sweet spot for trip length. A travel advisor who knows Barbados personally can handle the logistics and get you perks you wouldn't get booking direct.
