Montego Bay Jamaica Travel Guide: Beaches, Resorts, and What to Know
Every destination has its own rhythm. Montego Bay moves at a pace that rewards curiosity — the best experiences here aren't in the brochures, they're around the next corner.
Why Montego Bay
Montego Bay delivers what most destinations promise but few provide — genuine beauty, real culture, and enough variety to fill a week without repeating yourself. It's not a theme park version of paradise. It's the real thing.
Getting There
Fly into Sangster International Airport (MBJ). Direct flights from most major US cities. Currency: Jamaican Dollar (JMD), USD widely accepted. Language: English, Jamaican Patois.
Best Time to Visit
December through April. Temperature range: 73°F (23°C) to 89°F (32°C). Shoulder season (May–June, November) offers the best value with nearly identical weather.
What Not to Miss
Doctor's Cave Beach — the beach that started Montego Bay tourism. Crystal clear water, $6 entry, changing facilities. Gets crowded midday.
Dunn's River Falls in Ocho Rios — 600-foot terraced waterfall you climb with a guide. Touristy but unforgettable. $25 entry.
Local Food and Dining
Scotchies jerk pit — the real deal. Jerk chicken and pork smoked over pimento wood. $8–12 per plate. Two locations around MoBay.
Planning Your Trip
Book accommodation and flights 3–4 months ahead for high season. One week is the sweet spot for trip length. A travel advisor who knows Montego Bay personally can handle the logistics and get you perks you wouldn't get booking direct.
