New Direct Flights to Greece in 2026 Make Island-Hopping Easier Than Ever
Greece's airports started 2026 with nearly 9% more passengers than the same period last year. A wave of new routes from the U.S., Canada, India, and across Europe is making this one of the most accessible summers in Greek travel history.
New Routes from the United States and Canada
American Airlines is launching a direct route from Dallas to Athens starting May 21, making it the airline's fifth U.S. gateway to the Greek capital. That's a meaningful addition for travelers in Texas and the Southwest who previously had to connect through East Coast hubs.
Delta and United are both resuming services earlier than usual from Atlanta, Boston, and Chicago, signaling stronger year-round demand for Greece. United has also increased capacity on its Washington Dulles to Athens route with larger aircraft starting at the end of April. Air Canada is extending its seasonal schedule with earlier flights from Montreal and Toronto beginning in March — months before the traditional summer rush.
In total, Athens now connects to eight U.S. cities nonstop, with fares from the East Coast running as low as $250 one-way during shoulder season.
European and International Expansion to the Greek Islands
The growth isn't limited to transatlantic routes. WizzAir is adding service from Gdańsk to Athens starting in May. airBaltic launches Tallinn-Athens flights in April. TAP Air Portugal resumes its Lisbon connection in July. These routes open up Greece to travelers from the Baltics, Poland, and Portugal who previously had fewer direct options.
Aegean Airlines, Greece's largest carrier, is planning over 22 million seats for 2026 with expanded service across Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa. The airline has also launched historic direct flights between Athens and both New Delhi and Mumbai through a partnership with IndiGo, connecting Greece to the Indian travel market for the first time.
For island access, Aegean is adding daily Athens-to-Sitia flights for summer, improving connectivity to eastern Crete. Domestic connections to Santorini, Mykonos, Rhodes, and Corfu remain strong, making island-hopping straightforward once you reach Athens.
What This Means for Planning a Greece Trip in 2026
More routes mean more competition, which typically pushes prices down — especially on shoulder-season dates in May, early June, September, and October. These are also the best months for weather that's warm without being oppressive, and sites like the Acropolis and Santorini caldera are significantly less crowded.
The expanded Air Canada schedule is particularly useful for travelers who want to arrive in Greece before peak season and take advantage of lower hotel rates. And the new Dallas route gives southern U.S. travelers a nonstop option that didn't exist last year.
If Greece is on your list for 2026, booking early for summer flights is smart — the expanded routes are filling quickly. A travel advisor can help you build an itinerary that combines mainland Athens with island stops using the new domestic connections.
